Would This Have Raised My Shipping Charge?
24 Mar 2003

I usually send packages from here, so I have a huge supply of stamps in all denominations. Last week, I got a pile from the Post Office and set them on my desk. Shortly after, I couldn't find them, and I looked on the floor and saw a stack there. They had slid of the floor and fallen next to the desk, so I picked them up and put them away. I noticed that one sheet had fallen into the trash can (okay, don't worry--it's ALL paper stuff, so it's not like the stamps are now covered with banana peel goo and old fish heads). I didn't think of it again for a few more days, then had to mail a larger package and needed a couple of dollar stamps. I looked through my stack; couldn't find them. Looked on the floor; couldn't find them. Looked in Ewan's toybox (honestly, would any of us be surprised if he used them as stickers??); couldn't find them. Then I remembered the stamps in the trash bin. We had just put out the garbage on the curb last night, and the garbage truck came that morning! In a panic, I looked all over the house for these stamps. There were TEN of them, so I stood to lose a full ten dollars! I couldn't find them ANYWHERE. So I sat down by my desk and took every single paper product out of my trash can, one by one. I looked everything over very thoroughly. I got to the bottom, and no sign of any stamps.

Finally, at the very bottom, I saw a white card. I turned it over--TEN ONE-DOLLAR STAMPS! I can't say how relieved I was!

Moral of the Story: When you get ten dollars' worth of stamps, for goodness' sake, put them in a drawer!
