Magnetic Hematite Hearts
Well, maybe these are a little late for Valentine's Day, but we didn't even know we were getting them until last week.  (We'd ordered magnetic spheres, our wholesaler sent us hearts instead.)  They are just as fun as our regular Magnetic Hematite Zingers; actually, I think they make an even stronger zinging sound.

Stone Fun Facts
Herkimer Diamond
** Please see general information about Quartz HERE.
** Herkimer Diamonds are naturally occurring double-terminated Quartz crystals.  While most Quartz grows on a host rock and therefore is attached to the host and needs to be broken off, Herkimer crystals grow in a very soft matrix of Dolomite, and usually have little to no contact with the host rock at all.  Thus, they are terminated at both ends, and can be easily removed from the host rock without breaking.
** Herkimer Diamonds are not real diamonds.  They are given this name because of their perfect 18-faceted shape and unusual clarity.  Most Herkimers are water-clear, though some have inclusions.  (There have also been some Amethyst Herkimer Diamonds found.)
** These special crystals are found in Herkimer County, New York.  Similar crystals are found elsewhere in the world, but they are not official "Herkimer" Diamonds.
** Herkimer Diamonds are slightly harder than natural Quartz--about 8 on Moh's scale.  They carry the same metaphysical healing properties as Quartz, but it is magnified with Herkimers, due to their exceptional clarity.  The metaphysical properties of Herkimers is thought to be the strongest in existence.
** Crystal healers use Herkimer Diamonds as a filter to release toxins from the body, to aid in clarity and creativity, to boost the immune system, and to enhance the dream state.
** Known as the "Stone of Attunement," Herkimers attune the user to other people, environments, and activities.
** Herkimer Diamonds are not a new find--the Mohawk Indians knew of them, as did the early European settlers.

Penny Sale Hints
People occasionally write to me and ask if there's any way I will give up the location of the Penny Sale.  We originated this little fun sale to get people to browse the site more.  The idea is that, the more you browse, the more stuff you are likely to find that you like!  So we change the Penny Sale's location every two weeks to keep folks looking.
While I won't give out the location of any current Penny Sale, I will give a few hints to those who are interested in finding it.

1. Note last fortnight's Penny Sale.  I sometimes create a new Penny Sale without removing the old one.  Some customers have had great success in scooping up a "retired" Penny item the day after the newsletter arrives!  This will never be a given (and you can bet I'll be removing last week's sale before I send this newsletter out!), but in general, try looking for last week's sale and see what happens.
2. Think of Price.  The Penny Sale item has to be something on which I can take a small loss.  Therefore, it will usually be something that ordinarily costs $2 or less.  Don't look for it among the more expensive items.
3. Think of Size.  While we do add a shipping charge to the Penny Sale item, it still has to be something that will easily fit in with the rest of your order.  Therefore, you'll never find Penny Sale items that are particularly heavy, large, or awkward-shaped.
4. Think of Variation.  We try to rotate the items somewhat, so if last week's item was beads, it will NOT be beads again.  If last week's item was a ring, don't look in the ring section again for at least a couple of months.
5. Scan for Doubles.  The Penny Sale item appears right alongside the original cost item, so a quick scan of the page will show two identical pictures next to each other.
6. Forget about the Search Engine.  We get tons of hits every week for "penny" in our search engine.  The problem with this is that the word "penny" in on the sidebar of every single one of our 2000+ pages!  So doing a search on "penny" won't help at all.

With these hints, perhaps you will have more luck in finding the Penny Sale!

Fortnightly Sale
Discounted Chips!
This is going to be a sale this week, but I am thinking of permanently reducing the prices on most Chip Beads.  When I first set the $2-per-50 price, it was when I was still buying strands individually, long before I discovered wholesale.  I've always reasoned that the higher price was justified in the labor of counting and bagging, but I am going to try out a new price nearly across the Chip board and see how that affects sales and profits.  (Certain stones will NOT show a sale price, due to their very low profit margin.)  So if you were interested in stocking up on chips, you'll enjoy this sale!  Most items will be 25 cents to a dollar off.  If we get a very good response to this, we might keep these prices indefinitely.
This Fortnight's Sale is good through February 25, 2007

Penny Sale
Every two weeks, I hide a new special offer somewhere on my online site.  This listing will offer a certain product for ONE CENT, with any purchase of $10.00 or more.  The item and its location will change every two weeks, so be sure to look often.  Simply go to my online store site:
and browse until you find the hidden listing.  Add it to your cart, along with the rest of your $10.00+ order, and it will be included for just a penny.  Happy Hunting!
(Recent keen-eyed customers got a BRAZILIAN AGATE SLAB for a penny!  What will you be able to get this week?)

Insider's Special
Freebie!
As you can see, we're running a bit late with this issue, so instead of trying to come up with some fancy sale, I'm just gonna throw in a completely random freebie in each order from my super-special subscribers.  Please be sure to mention your subscriber status, so I will remember to include the free gift.  (And you know I WILL forget.)  Enjoy!
This Fortnight's Insider's Sale is good through February 25, 2007
