WOW, Are We LATE or WHAT?
Hmm, let's see, checking through the files for the last issue...it was on July 24.  So it's been seven weeks since the last issue.  That's got to be a record.  This last month has been uber-hectic for us, with out of town visitors AND a local festival (see NEWS, below).  Things that were waiting to be listed were put on the shelf so I wouldn't get ahead of myself and list things that weren't ready to go.  As a result, we have a TON of new items soon to be listed, a bunch of festival low-sellers that will pop up here soon, and an unfortunately long dark spot in the history of the Ephemerala Newsletter.  Starting today I am going to redouble my efforts to get this literary gem out on time every fortnight.  To make up for the long absence, here, at the request of a couple of our friendly regular customers, are a few cute pictures of the Ephemerala Zoo:

(Can you believe that Cedric was premature??)

New Items
Mini Gem Chips in Boxes
We already have mini chips in bags; now we have them in little hinge-top plastic boxes.  The boxes are 1" square and contain about 50-80 chips.  Sell them for $2-3 each and watch them fly.  This is the sort of thing I adored as a kid!

Pakistan Onyx Marbles Back in Stock
The title says it all.  Unbelievably beautiful marbles with warm layered earth tones.  I've even reduced the price by a buck!

Gemstone Dice
Seven different stones have been turned into dice for your game-playing fun.  No pictures on these yet.  With a young baby, it's easy to do lots of computer-related things like creating listings and typing newsletters, but it is very hard to do certain tasks such as scanning items!  So I have the dice listings, but no photos yet.  Hopefully soon.  It's pretty easy to figure out what they'd look like anyway, so if this is something you've been looking for and/or you don't mind taking a chance (we have a full money back return policy, remember!), give it a go.

Coming Soon
New Beads:
(But I'm not sure yet what they are.  When we get things cleared up around here, I'll pull them out, dust them off, and list them for your beading pleasure.)

Stone Fun Facts
Abalone (revisited)
** Abalone is a Mollusk (shelled fish) in the Gastropod class. Gastropods also include snails and whelks. Abalone is prized for its meat as well as its beautiful shell.
** The pretty part of the shell in on the inside, where nacre (mother of pearl) of a variety of colors can be seen. The outside of the shell is dull brown, and you can see this when you look at our Abalone Chip Beads, which have brown edges and colorful inner surfaces.
** The word "Abalone" comes from the Spanish word aulone, which is the name of the animal. The shell is also called Paua Shell.
** Crystal healers use Abalone for a large variety of purposes. It is thought to be helpful in disorders involving joints, bones, and muscles. It protects against uncooperative attitudes, stimulates creativity, and promotes calm. Not surprisingly, it also helps in calcium deficiencies.
** Since Mollusks often have to leave their shells to find larger ones when they grow, all shells are considered to bring boundless growth in life and thought.
** The Abalone that you often see in jewelry is a brilliant blue or purple. These specimens are dyed. The natural colors, while beautiful, are generally more varied, and may include blue, green, purple, pink, yellow, orange, and white. It is sometimes known as a "Sea Opal" due to the changing opalescent hues.
** All jewelry made from shells, be it Abalone or Mother of Pearl, is suitable for a Mother's Day gift!

News & Stuff
Hurricane Peach Days a Success
For the last month I've been meaning to tell everyone about our upcoming festival, but now that "upcoming" festival is a week in the past.  Last year's Peach Days festival was such a success that we decided to do it again this year, with twice the booth space and a nursing baby to deal with.  Fun.  Hurricane Peach Days was originally a festival to celebrate the fruit harvest.  (We are currently up to our ears in cherries, apricots, and peaches, and aren't near done yet!)  A few years ago the town renewed the old festival.  It has a homey, comfortable feel to it, unlike some more hectic fairs, and apparently there are a lot of people around here who like gemmy stuff, because we did a booming business.  This year's festival was extra-special due to it being the centennial of the city of Hurricane, so we expected as much luck this year as we had last year.  We ended up nearly doubling our sales from last year--a great success.  The baby was happy most of the time (try being five months old and having to sit around a booth for 12 hours at a time!), and our 9-year-old son Rio helped out a lot.  My mom of Designs by Xan (website coming soon) was there as well to sell her beaded necklaces and earrings.

Fortnightly Sale
Freebies Ahoy!
With the Peach Days festival right behind us and a thorough cleaning and reorganizing of The Dungeon taking place as I write (well, not JUST AS I write, but a couple of minutes ago I was working on it), I don't want to get too bogged down in changing listing prices or digging up certain items that might be currently hidden in the chaos, so I'm making it easy on myself by offering assorted random freebies with every $10 you buy.  This means if you spend $10, you'll get one free gift.  If you spend $20, you'll get two freebies.  A $60 purchase gets you six freebies.  And a purchase of $287 will get you 28 freebies.  No limit, just one freebie for every ten buckaroos you drop in the store this fortnight.  To make it even more interesting, I'm not even going to try to match the freebie(s) to anything you bought.  Just gonna grab whatever is handy and pop it in with the rest of your order.  Totally random and very often senseless.  What fun!
This Fortnight's Sale is good through September 24, 2006

Penny Sale
Every two weeks, I hide a new special offer somewhere on my online site.  This listing will offer a certain product for ONE CENT, with any purchase of $10.00 or more.  The item and its location will change every two weeks, so be sure to look often.  Simply go to my online store site:
and browse until you find the hidden listing.  Add it to your cart, along with the rest of your $10.00+ order, and it will be included for just a penny.  Happy Hunting!
(Recent keen-eyed customers got an INCENSE CONE for a penny.  What will you be able to get this week?)

Insider's Special
20% More on Value Packs!
Getting ready for Peach Days put me in a bulky type of mood.  So if there are any resellers out there who have similar fairs coming up, or you just gosh darn like the stuff, I'll add an extra 20% to whatever Value Pack(s) you choose.  Ten-packs will have 12 items, 20-packs will have 24, and so on and so on.  No limit, but I do ask that you drop me an e-mail to identify yourself as one of my super-special subscribers so I'll remember to include the extra stuff.
This Fortnight's Insider's Sale is good through September 24, 2006
