New Chip Beads
Do you realize I have nearly 170 different types of chip beads?  I mean, that's really a lot.  I just went back to an old newsletter from December 2002, where I bragged of carrying a whopping 38 different types of chip beads!  I didn't realize back then where I'd be now!  The sad thing is, after I scan & list the Silver Leaf Jasper (which I accidentally bagged all up without scanning first), I will have NO NEW CHIPS to look forward to!  I've totally tapped out my current suppliers.  I either need to find some new wholesalers, or hope that some will go to the Gem Show in Tucson in September and find a whole new batch for me!

Pink Mother of Pearl
Softly dyed pink beads.  Most are a general chip shape, but some are really wacky.

Blue Mother of Pearl
Outrageously dyed beads.  Very strongly colored dark aqua.  These beads are on the large side, and are HIGHLY irregular in shape.

Yellow Mother of Pearl
Gentle color, good chip size, nothing too freaky.

Wood Agate
These are small square nuggets of a gently translucent stone of soft grays and light browns.  Nice for those who like an evenly-shaped chip.

Golden Pyrite
Really pretty!  My other Pyrite chip beads are on the grayish side, but these small squared nuggets have a good golden color to them.  Now THIS is a stone I might have mistaken for gold back during the Gold Rush!

Ruby Zoisite
I've been looking for this chip for ages.  Finally found it, and they are very nice.  Great deep green color that would be excellent even without the ruby marbling.  The pink inclusions are clean and plentiful.  Highly recommended.

Ivory Magnesite
Seriously white, whiter than white, so white your eyes will hurt.  I got these from some wholesaler who was calling them Howlite, but they have no gray marbling, and exhibit a bumpy, chalky quality that is found with Magnesite.   I don't know if I can get these again, so if you want them, get them NOW.

Russian Amazonite
Really beautiful!  A strong medium aqua with tiny white lines throughout.  Great color.

Cream Coral
A nice, if rather dull, new Coral bead.

Stone Fun Facts
Lapis Lazuli
** Lapis Lazuli is a rock comprised of many minerals.  The main mineral is Lazurite, and it can also contain Calcite (which gives it white streaks), Sodalite (which gives it its blue color), and Pyrite (which gives it golden flecks), as well as a number of other minerals.  As a rock, rather than a typical gemstone, Lapis can have slightly different mineral compositions from stone to stone.
** In general, the fewer white lines, the more valuable the stone.  The most expensive Lapis is a deep, solid blue with small Pyrite inclusions.  Sometimes the white areas of Lapis are colored blue to raise the value of the gem.  Lapis chips and scratches easily and should be protected.
** True Lapis is hard to come by.  Most "Lapis" on the market is actually dyed Howlite or some other stone.  If you see Pyrite inclusions, it usually means you have real Lapis.
** Lapis is one of the oldest gemstones known.  Ancient Egyptians considered it a sacred and prized stone.  Looking like the star-studded night sky, it was thought to possess the energy of the sky, limitless in its wisdom.
** Ancient Egyptians used powdered Lapis as eye shadow.  Powdered Lapis was mixed with oil to form the pigment known as Ultramarine, which was used in paintings for thousands of years.
** Both Christians and Egyptians associated Lapis with motherhood.  Hindus believed that a Lapis stone on a gold chain would protect children from evil.
** The stone's name comes from the Latin lapis, which means "stone," and the Farsi (Persian) azul, which means "blue."
** Crystal healers use Lapis to reduce fever and sore throat.  It is thought to help the wearer understand his or her emotional issues; not necessarily reducing them, but bringing them into a clear light so that the wearer has the opportunity to understand and deal with them.
** Lapis is a traditional birthstone for December, and can be used as an anniversary gift for the 7th and 9th year of marriage.

Bead of the Month Club Coming Soon!
Based on suggestions from a few regular customers, I am putting together a Bead-of-the-Month Club.  There will probably be either two or three different clubs, based on the level of involvement you want, and each package will be sent out at the first of the month.  The Club packages will contain new items, old favorites, and exclusives that are nowhere else on the site.  I hope to have these clubs developed and ready to go in two weeks or less.

New Value Packs in the Works
In addition to the Club idea, I also have ideas for new Value Packs geared toward teachers, and kids' parties.  Look for Reward Packs and Party Favor Packs to arrive soon.  I am very open to suggestions if you have any ideas.

Insider's Special
Color Groups Chip Packs
I used to have these on eBay but haven't for a while.  This is a package consisting of six bags of Chip Beads in specific color groups.  There are six different color groups to choose from, and each pack is $10.00.  These are great for people who want to color-coordinate their beading but don't necessarily want to go finding the stones on their own.  (Plus, the price is greatly reduced when you buy the pack!)  There is no limit to the number of packs you can buy, though if there are really large numbers of orders, to the point where we run out of a certain type of bead, I might make a substitution of a similar stone.
Color Groups Chip Pack Offer is good through September 5, 2004.
